Winterproof Your Skin: Hydration Tips

Winterproof Your Skin: Hydration Tips

Posted by Selena Sundher on

Happy Friday Suvskiers. Let’s face it, most of us suffer from dry skin in the winter. Absolutely normal and nothing to be embarrassed about. We want to keep our skin happy and healthy during the colder weather.

But what exactly can happen to our skin if exposed to such cold conditions without a proper routine? Firstly, it can look dehydrated - this results in flaky, dry, or itchy skin. Secondly if you are prone to eczema, you may notice your skin flaring up more during this season. The Suvski team compiled our favorite ways to winterproof our skin.

1. Use A Heavier Moisturizer

For the softgirls with normal to dry skin, it’s time to swap out your lightweight moisturizer for something richer. Heavier moisturizers help lock in hydration and create a protective barrier against the elements. However, if you have naturally oily skin, be cautious—rich products might clog your pores and lead to breakouts. Always choose a moisturizer suited for your skin type.

2. Shield Your Skin

Using SPF is still important during the winter. It may seem cloudy to you but the sun’s UV rays can still penetrate through the clouds and and reflect off snow, causing damage to unprotected skin. Opt for a broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30 and make it part of your daily routine, even in the winter.

3. Consider Hydrating Face Masks

Treat yourself to a weekly hydrating face mask to give your skin a much-needed moisture boost. Look for masks with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or aloe vera, which are all amazing for locking in hydration. This is also a perfect excuse for a little self-care session!

4. Water, Water, & Water

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again—water is your skin’s best friend. Staying hydrated from the inside out can significantly improve your skin’s elasticity and overall texture. Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day, and consider incorporating hydrating foods like cucumbers and watermelon into your diet.

5. Don’t Neglect Your Body

While we tend to focus on our face, the rest of our body needs love too. Some Suvskiers experience dryness in all parts of our body such as the hands, arms, and legs. Our favorite products to combat this is the First Aid Beauty Ultra Cream from Sephora or the Lubiderm Advanced Moisture Lotion from any drugstore. Bonus tip: apply your lotion right after a shower while your skin is still damp to lock in extra hydration.

We hope these tips help you keep your skin glowing and happy throughout the colder months. Winter may be harsh, but with a little care, your skin doesn’t have to suffer.

Stay cozy and hydrated.

Xx, Suvski
