Why Laughter Really Is The Best Medicine

Why Laughter Really Is The Best Medicine

Posted by Selena Sundher on

Happy Friday Suvskiers. Ever hear the term, "A laughter a day keeps the doctor away?" Here at Suvski, we believe that sometimes the best medicine is free. In order to feel good, we have to practice feeling good. And let’s face it, we all have those bad days or stressful weeks where everything feels like a mountain to climb. That’s why it’s important not to take life too seriously.  Laughter, one of life’s simplest joys, can shape our health, boost our mood, and bring people closer together.

1. Physical Health Benefits

Laughter works wonders on the body. It’s like a mini workout: it elevates heart rate, enhances blood flow, and even burns calories. Laughing regularly decreases cortisol, the body’s stress hormone, while boosting endorphins, helping us manage physical pain and stress more effectively. Regular laughter also contributes to a stronger immune system, making us more resilient to illness.

2. Mental and Emotional Boost

On those tough days, a little laughter does more than lighten the mood—it actively combats stress and lifts our spirits. Laughing releases serotonin and dopamine, chemicals that keep us feeling good, and has a calming effect that helps ease anxiety. Even in high-stress situations, a quick laugh can shift perspective and make challenges feel more manageable.

3. Social Bonding and Connection

Laughter is a universal language that helps people bond, no matter their differences. Shared laughter strengthens relationships and fosters connection. When we laugh with others, we boost oxytocin, the “bonding hormone,” reinforcing trust and a sense of closeness. Friends, families, and partners who laugh together often report better communication and emotional health.

4. Cognitive Clarity and Creativity

A quick laugh break can also clear mental fog. Laughter during the day improves focus, cognitive function, and productivity. This shift in energy allows for more creative problem-solving, making it a useful tool in both personal and professional settings.

In the end, laughter reminds us that even on hard days, we don’t have to take life too seriously. So next time you’re feeling the weight of the world, take a moment to laugh—it's a small act that leads to big benefits.

Till next week Suvskiers, have a lovely weekend, and a spooky halloween xx
